Acrylic on Gallery-Depth Canvas

Sometimes we feel like we have lost a part of ourselves, or something significant in our life that changes us forever. We may feel vulnerable or even damaged.

When I saw this tulip in the spring beds of flowers near the Water Street bridge in Newmarket, I was instantly drawn to it, its missing petal, and its glowing beauty.

Painting this tulip was a reminder for me that, even with our losses and scars, we can find a new kind of wholeness. We can learn to live with what remains and find some meaning and beauty in that. We can still grow and reach for the sky, be in community and offer our unique gifts to the world while being authentically who and how we are, missing petals and all.
